Watch out for the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia if you're planning to or driving through the region! These are an amazing spectacle! The Lakes are truly beautiful and visitors are allowed to walk on wooden pathways over and through these divine pools of water. Unfortunately for the individual bathing is not allowed, fortunately for the all of us as the waters are as clear as the Himalayan air. Another 'con' to the park is its overdevelopment. It felt as if it is a tourism only centred park where food and beverage huts are strategically placed to create endless cues of unaware visitors on the edge of dehydration with inpatient screeching children howling for popsicles and soda. The ticket for entering the Lakes is not particularly expensive, however it does tint the experience. To be noted is that the transportation services are great! Ferries ferry you across the lakes so to reach the farther pathways. Better even are the double coach Unimogs (YES! D-O-U-B-L-E C-O-A-C-H UNIMOG!!!) that transport you back to the starting point once you reach the farthest spot on the reserve. Camping spots are available however our experience of continuos payment to access any facility and collective promise at the beginning of the expedition to never use camping sites pushed us to venture into the woods and find a spot for ourselves. We found on a few hundred meters off the beaten path next to Ski slopes. We had no unexpected visitors and took in the cold night with stride. Directions and access to the National Park are easy and all roads are accessible by any wheel drive, or hoofs for that matter... here are the coordinates!!! 44°52'23,982" N 15°36'13,387" EIf you've been there or want to let us know!!
